European Landmarks Worth Building a Trip Around

Most people plan a European trip around a city: a few days in Rome, a few days in Barcelona, maybe a coastal stop tacked on at the end. Caminito del Rey, Spain

The Caminito del Rey is a walkway bolted into the side of a gorge in the mountains north of Málaga — a few feet wide in places, a hundred meters above the river below, and closed for over a decade after a series of accidents before being fully rebuilt and reopened. It's not a casual stroll: tickets are timed and capped, and the route itself takes a few hours round trip once you count the approach paths on either end. That controlled access is actually part of what makes it worth planning around specifically — you're not going to stumble into it on a half-day detour from the coast.
